How to Perfect Hot Chocolate

Hot Chocolate also known as hot cocoa it is heated beverage. It was first invented in Mexico and later became popular in Europe and now it is the most favorite hot beverage after Tea and Coffee. There are many version available, is typically made from shavings of Chocolate, Milk, cream, melted chocolate, the other version which is popular is made from Cocoa powder which is known as drinking chocolate.

I was scratching my head what to post and was happy to see Hot Chocolate in  "How to Cook Perfect Series". I like my hot chocolate with a hint of cinnamon and orange so i add dried orange peel candy in my hot chocolate.


Preparation time : 10 mins
Cooking time : 10 mins
Serves : 
Difficulty level : Easy to Hard

Ingredients :
70 gms dark chocolate 55 - 70%
30 gms milk chocolate
13/4 (450 ml ) cup whole milk
1/2 cup fresh cream
1/2 tsp cinnamom
1/2 tsp orange peel candy

Other things required:
Pan
Knife
Whisk
Glass to serve

Method:
  • Boil half the milk i.e. 1 cup of milk, bring to boil.
  • Remove from flame and add in chocolates, orange peel and mix well.
  • When chocolate is melted add in rest milk and cream.
  • Heat again whisking all time. add in cinnamom and heat for a min.
  • Take care not to boil the milk.
  • Transfer in the glass or mug and serve with a dollop of cream.
Notes:

  • Chop the chocolates to melt it quicker
  • Never boil the chocolate as it will break the chocolate molecule and may split the milk.
Health Benefits : 


  • Flavonoids found in cocoa makes hot chocolate also has a positive health effect on arterial health.
  • Flavonoids found in hot chocolate are beneficial to health because they shield walls of blood vessels from free radical damage.

    1. Yes Dear, I love citrus food a lot and my hubby has tried orange flavored hot chocolate, well orange flavored is not available in Pune, so thought to infuse with Orange candy peel and it turned out well and enhanced the flavor
